Wednesday || 6 fashion tips for the godly woman

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
1 Timothy 2:9‭-‬10 KJV

Fashion is dynamic and so must you be. The scriptures however is clear on what principles and thoughts must guide your appearance.

When it comes to dressing and appearance, the scripture has more to say to women of faith, than to men.

I acknowledge that in this world of rapidly changing trends where people are seeking to to find freedom of expression, the child of God could be trapped. Let us therefore discuss a few guidelines to look trendy but not seductive and ungodly. Remember

All things are lawful but not all things are expedient and appropriate.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV

Under grace, all things are lawful but all things are not expedient nor edifying. Before you step out, ask whether your appearance will edify those who encounter you. Be sure that, your choice of clothes and appearance edify faith and godliness! You must always focus on choosing clothes and accessories that are appropriate for the occasion.

Dress to be addressed

Don’t dress to kill, dress to be addressed. A decent woman will choose clothes and accessories that project them as descent and not seductive. You must dress to be honoured and not to attract or seduce.

Your clothes and accessories must protect you from the weather

It’s offensive to wear skimpy clothes and the try to cover your nakedness with a hand bag or face towel. Wear clothes that cover and protect you adequately.

Dress to be identified

When I meet a police officer going to work, her clothes identify her; think of nurses, fire fighter, soldiers, bankers, pastors, etc. Why would you want to wear the clothes of a harlot when you are not one. Are there clothes for harlots? Yes! How can you tell? Watch movies. At least, even ungodly script writers know how to portray a harlot.

And, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
Proverbs 7:10 KJV

There is a story in the bible of a man named Judah who slept with his own daughter in-law because she disguised herself with the clothes and accessories of a harlot.

And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep. And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife. When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face. And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me? Genesis 38:13‭-‬16 KJV

Choose clothes and accessories that enhance your looks; but don’t spend your fortunes on clothes

The scriptures exhorts women to choose clothes and accessories that adorn them. You must step out with clothes that adorn you. Choose clothes that adorn you, and not what breaks the bank.

Deliberately dress as an act of worship

Dress as an act of worship, spirits are attracted to sights, symbols, sounds, smell and sacrifices.

Stay blessed
