Why Many are Still Sick and Weak in the Church

I want to share with you three simple reasons why many are still sick and weak in the Body of Christ.

[Isaiah 53:5 KJV] “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

We must understand that Jesus Christ died and rose again to save us from the control and effects of sin, sicknesses, poverty, and eternal damnation. He gave His life so that we will be saved and live forever. From the Prophet Isaiah, we learn that “by His stripes, we are healed”. The Bible tells us the Lord said “I am the Lord that heals you and will not put any of the diseases of Egypt upon you”. Therefore, the thought-provoking question is, why are some still sick and weak in the church or in the Body?

There are so many reasons why many are still sick and weak in the Body but I want to discuss just three. Many are still sick and weak because;

  1. They walk in rebellion and disobedience
  2. They treat the Lord’s table lightly.
  3. They speak loosely and run their mouth

These are three simple reasons why many are still sick and weak in the Body of Christ.

They walk in rebellion

Rebellion is one of the key causes of sickness and weakness in the Body of Christ. “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land but if you rebellion and disobey, you will be devoured by the sword”. Many are sick and oppressed because of rebellion. I pray that we shall learn to hearken and to keep the word of God.

[Isaiah 1:5 KJV] “Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.”

You will do well if you give yourself wholly to reading, listening and meditating on the doctrine of Scriptures.

Your obedience will bring you healing. “If you are willing and obedient you will eat the good of the land”. Rebellion is a major cause of sickness and weakness in the body. Let us learn to obey and walk in the Word and we will live in health and wealth.

They treat the table of the Lord lightly

The second reason I want to discuss is our approach to the table of the Lord. Most often than not, many of the brethren treat the Lord’s table lightly and that is why many people are sick. We must learn to approach the table of the Lord with dignity and honour. Anyone who approaches the Lord’s table frivolously and lightly could become sick and weak. This was one of the major reasons why people in the church of Corinth became sick and weak and some even died.

[1 Corinthians 11:26‭-‬30 KJV] “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.,”

I wish to exhort you to strive to understand the mystery of the table of the Lord and honour it.

Others are sick because they speak perversion

The Bible says “he that loves life and will see God days must refrain his tongue from speaking guile and his lips from speaking evil.” The things you say with your tongue will impact on your life. The Bible says “a wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness thereof is a breach in spirit.”

[1 Peter 3:10‭-‬11 KJV] “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.”

I have no doubt whatsoever that if we shall learn to walk in obedience, treat the Lord’s table with honour and speak by faith; many shall live in health and wealth as promised by the Holy Scriptures.

Stay blessed, I love you
